Who treats squint in children and adults?
An eye specialist who has received super speciality training in strabismus is the most qualified to treat any misalignment of eyes. Usually, Ophthalmologists who are experts in Children's eye diseases go on to obtain special training in Strabismus. This is because strabismus is most commonly seen in children. However, adults can also be successfully treated by such squint specialists. At what age should squint be treated?
As a rule, squint in children should be treated as early as possible. For certain squints, like Infantile Esotropia (inward deviation of the eye) surgery should be done as early as possible ideally by 6 months after birth. For Exotropia (outward deviation of the eye), surgery is recommended by 4 to 6 years of age. On adults, surgery may be done anytime for most squints.
